Imaging technique:

Three specimens of L. plei. The large animal in the middle is a mature male with strong lateral flame markings or stripes. The other two may be smaller immature males as very weak flame markings appear to be present. These markings are unique to males in this species. Ruler calibrated in cm. Note how long and narrow this species appears in comparison to its sibling species, L. pealeii in image 1035. Thus, the common name, Tropical Arrow Squid.

Maturity: Adult; Sex: Male; Lab or Wild: Lab; Origin: S. gulf of mexico, campeche, mexico
