Large female O. defilippi after dying post-egglaying. The small octopus just above the large one another animal collected in nature at the same time and same size as the large female. The smaller animal died a couple of days after arriving in the laboratory. From the comparison, it is clear how much the surviving animal grew in captivity before laying eggs and dying.
