Imaging technique: 

A common octopus on a Caribbean grass bed shooting ink at a bothersome diver to the left. Note the octopus has blanched pure white at the same moment it ejected the black ink cloud. This behavioral sequence of inking, suddenly blanching white and jetting away is known as protean behavior and is used as a last resort when all other ploys to avoid a predator or in this case a diver have failed.
