Comparison between L. vulgaris eggs from the Mediterranean coast of France (lower two egg strands) and loliginid eggs of another species (L. forbesii?) collected on the Saharan Bank of West Africa (top egg strand). Note the yellow color of the eggs of the top strand, typical of the eggs trawled on the Saharan Bank. The two lower strands are much further along in development and illustrate the extent to which loliginid eggs swell as they develop.
