Close-up ventral view of ovary and individual ova in the ovary of female L. brevis in this image. Healthy, viable ova are transparent or translucent whereas dead or unviable ova are opaque white. In this image, the vast majority of ova are viable, but numerous white unviable ova can be seen. Also note the fully contracted chromatophores visible over the entire ventral surface of the mantle, visible as black spots.
