Close-up of an undescribed octopus species found on a vast sand plain in the Red Sea. This octopus is part of the "mimic octopus" complex, all of which are presently undescribed species. In this body posture, the small octopus is standing on its arms with the mantle held out horizontally in a very rigid posture. This may be an example of mimicry if further study can identify a likely model species that is being mimicked. See image 610 for a wide-angle view of this posture from a distance.
