Close-up from above of a week-old S. lessoniana hatchling. Note the large size of the chromatophores and the rudimentary expression of the three body bands seen in older animals. This disruptive body pattern is often seen in young squids like this. The fins are still very small and virtually transparent here, barely visible at the tip of the mantle.
