Description:

This head-on view illustrates how a cuttlefish (S. latimanus) can literally hide its body behind its own head and arms. The iridescent green/yellow lines visible on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd pair of arms mark the exact location of the 'lateral line' system found in cuttlefishes that is analagous to the lateral line system in fishes. These lines are shallow grooves containing rows of hair cells that are sensitive to vibrations in water.

Maturity: Juvenile; Lab or Wild: Lab; Origin: S. pacific, palau
